William Kloefkorn was named the Nebraska State Poet in 1982. A professor emeritus of English at Nebraska Wesleyan University, he has published many collections of poetry—including Sergeant Patrick Gass, Chief Carpenter, a collection of verse written in the voice of Patrick Gass—as well as a memoir, This Death by Drowning. He continues to live and write in Lincoln, Nebraska.
