William Kloefkorn was named the Nebraska State Poet in 1982. A professor emeritus of English at Nebraska Wesleyan University, he has published many collections of poetryincluding Sergeant Patrick Gass, Chief Carpenter, a collection of verse written in the voice of Patrick Gassas well as a memoir, This Death by Drowning. He continues to live and write in Lincoln, Nebraska.
