Some of it clearly belongs to the period at the "<name type="place" key="Fish Camp">Fishing Camp</name>."</note>
            <note xml:id="n05081602" n="2">The "<name type="native_nation" key="Hidatsa Indians, Awaxawi">Wattesoons</name>," a group of many names, were the <name type="native_nation" key="Hidatsa Indians, Awaxawi">Awaxawi</name>, a division of the <name type="native_nation" key="Hidatsa Indians">Minitari</name>, or <name type="native_nation" key="Hidatsa Indians">Hidatsa</name>, people (see <ref n="lc.jrn.1804-10-27" type="related">October 27, 1804</ref>).</note>
            <note xml:id="n05081603" n="3">The spelling of the original is by no means clear, but the location of this tribe relative to the <name type="native_nation" key="Mandan Indians">Mandans</name> and "<name type="native_nation" key="Hidatsa Indians, Awaxawi">Wattesoons</name>" leaves no doubt that <name type="person" key="Clark, William">Clark</name> meant some variation of "<name type="native_nation" key="Hidatsa Indians">Minitari</name>" (<name type="native_nation" key="Hidatsa Indians">Hidatsa</name>).</note>
            <note xml:id="n05081604" n="4">
               <name type="person" key="Gass, Patrick">Gass</name> may have been with this party, though his reference is unclear.</note>
            <note xml:id="n05081605" n="5">The "Rock" may be the white or rock bass, <hi rend="italic">Morone chrysops.</hi> It is difficult to identify <name type="person" key="Clark, William">Clark's</name> "flat Back." Criswell suggests it was sometimes a synomym for a sucker (family <hi rend="italic">Catostomidae</hi>), but this does not seem likely; perhaps <hi rend="italic">Pylodictis olivaris,</hi> flathead catfish. The silverfish may the same as those mentioned on <ref n="lc.jrn.1804-08-15" type="related">August 15</ref> or they may be minnows. Lee et al., 574, 742; Criswell, 39, 83.</note>
