  • Clark (Clark, William) incorporated these names on a sketch map of the region in his Elkskin-bound Journal. It is under his entry of November 1. Opposite this course in the Elkskin-bound Journal is a sketch map of the party's route from the confluence of the Columbia (Columbia River) and Snake (Snake (Ki-moo-e-nim, Lewis's, Southeast Branch of Columbia) River) rivers (unnamed on the map) to beyond the mouth of the Walla Walla River (Walla Walla (Waller Waller) River) (also unnamed), for about October 16–18, 1805.

  • After this sentence a light red line runs through nearly the remainder of the entry, perhaps penned by Biddle (Biddle, Nicholas) . The Nez Perce (Nez Perce Indians) burials are described somewhat differently by Biddle (Biddle, Nicholas) in notes he apparently made from conversations with Clark (Clark, William) in 1810.

  • This cache in Chouteau County (Chouteau County, Mont.) , between the Marias (Marias River) and the Missouri (Missouri River) , was about a mile upriver from the camp of June 3–12, 1805. Located at the camp of June 3–12, 1805, at the mouth of the Marias (Marias River) in Chouteau County (Chouteau County, Mont.) .

  • Clark (Clark, William) left his note to Lewis (Lewis, Meriwether) on August 4, 1806; see his entry for that date. The captains purchased an unknown number of hats made of cedar bark from some Clatsop (Clatsop Indians) women on February 22, 1806, and distributed them among the party.

  • Both Ordway (Ordway, John) and Gass (Gass, Patrick) seem to believe that Cruzatte (Cruzatte, Pierre) was entirely ignorant of having shot Lewis (Lewis, Meriwether) ; see their entries for this day. The .54 caliber Model 1803 rifle. As noted in another instance on May 5, 1806, the tents were rolls of lint used to keep the wound open to allow new tissue to grow from the inside out and promote drainage.
